Ý tưởng triển khai bài Writing task 2:

Zoos are cruel Zoos protect animals
  • Captivity limits animals’ freedom, movement and natural behaviour.
  • Small enclosures, noise and boredom can cause stress, depression and repetitive behaviour.
  • Artificial habitats cannot fully reproduce natural climates, social groups or survival activities.
  • Animals may be separated from their families and never experience life in the wild.
  • Some zoos treat animals as entertainment through shows, photographs and commercial activities.
  • Poorly funded zoos may provide inadequate enclosures, staff and veterinary care.
  • Captive animals may suffer from stress-related illness, poor health and shorter lives.
  • Inbreeding, overcrowding and unwanted offspring can create serious welfare problems.
  • No zoo can fully recreate complex ecosystems, migration patterns or predator-prey relationships.
  • Keeping animals for human benefit raises ethical concerns about freedom, dignity and animal rights.
  • Breeding programmes protect endangered species and support their return to the wild.
  • Zoos educate the public about wildlife and encourage support for conservation.
  • Zoos allow researchers to study animal behaviour, reproduction, diseases and medical treatment.

Ý tưởng triển khai bài Writing task 2:

Agree Disagree
  • Plant-based foods such as beans, lentils, tofu and meat substitutes can provide a healthy diet without using animals.
  • Lab-grown meat, synthetic leather, artificial fibres and cell-cultured dairy can replace many animal-based products.
  • Animals are sentient beings, so causing them pain or killing them is difficult to justify when alternatives are available.
  • Reducing animal farming can lower greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, water use, pollution and biodiversity loss.
  • Plant-based diets may reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, high cholesterol and obesity.
  • Supermarkets now offer plant-based foods, fortified products, supplements and alternatives to leather and fur.
  • Using fewer animals can reduce food poisoning, antibiotic resistance, zoonotic diseases and future pandemic risks.
  • Ending factory farming would reduce cruelty, poor living conditions and suffering in slaughterhouses.
  • Growing crops for direct human consumption uses less land, water, grain and energy than raising animals.
  • Modern science and technology make it increasingly possible to replace outdated practices with more humane options.
  • Animal products still provide complete protein, vitamin B12, iron and omega-3, especially for children and pregnant women.
  • Lab-grown and synthetic alternatives are still limited, expensive and may not fully match the quality of animal products.
  • Some communities depend on animals for food and survival because crops cannot grow well in cold, dry or mountainous regions.
  • Livestock farming, fishing and herding provide jobs and income for millions of people, especially in rural areas.
  • Some people have allergies, digestive problems or medical conditions that make a fully plant-based diet unsuitable.
  • These alternatives may be costly or unavailable in poor, rural or remote areas.
  • Some medicines, vaccines and medical research still rely on animal-derived materials or animal testing.
  • Animal use is closely linked to long-standing traditions, religious practices and cultural identity.
  • Animal products can support food security because they are easier to store and provide food when crops fail.
  • Traditional animal husbandry and Indigenous practices can be sustainable and help maintain ecosystems and biodiversity

Causes Solutions
  • People often buy pets impulsively because of cute appearances, online ads, pet shops, children’s requests or unplanned gifts.
  • Many owners do not understand the long-term costs, daily care, training needs or behavioural challenges of keeping a pet.
  • Veterinary care, food, grooming, insurance, equipment and emergencies often cost more than expected.
  • Changes such as moving house, having a baby, losing a job, illness or entering care can make pet ownership difficult.
  • Aggression, barking, chewing, separation anxiety and house-training problems may overwhelm inexperienced owners.
  • Films, social media, celebrities and short-lived trends can encourage people to buy fashionable breeds without proper planning.
  • Some owners focus only on the animal’s cute early stage and fail to plan for its adult size, ageing or future needs.
  • Easy access through pet shops, online marketplaces and unregulated breeders allows almost anyone to buy an animal.
  • Parents may buy pets because of children’s requests, even when the family has not discussed long-term responsibility.
  • Weak laws, poor enforcement and uncontrolled breeding reduce accountability for pet abandonment.
  • Communities may ignore neglect, abuse or irresponsible ownership instead of taking action.
  • Require interviews, home checks, financial reviews and lifestyle assessments before adoption.
  • Make pre-adoption courses and basic knowledge tests compulsory for all potential owners.
  • Provide a one- or two-week cooling-off period so buyers can research costs and reconsider their decision.
  • Offer low-cost veterinary care, pet food support, insurance schemes and emergency financial assistance.
  • Provide affordable training, behavioural consultations, online guidance, hotlines and community support groups.
  • Create safe rehoming services, temporary foster networks and clear plans for owners facing major life changes.
  • Require pet licences, registration and microchipping to track ownership and improve accountability.
  • Fine or prosecute people who abandon or abuse pets and prevent them from owning animals again.
  • License breeders, regulate online sales, restrict pet shops and control irresponsible breeding operations.
  • Run public campaigns and school programmes that promote responsible ownership and adoption.
  • Encourage neighbours to report welfare concerns, support struggling owners and build a culture of shared responsibility.

Wildlife Conservation, Extinction and Habitat Loss

Agree Disagree
  • Extinction is a natural part of evolution, and human intervention may disrupt natural selection and adaptation.
  • Limited public funds should prioritise poverty, healthcare, education and other urgent human needs.
  • Saving every endangered species is impossible, and nature may eventually restore its own balance.
  • Artificially preserving weak species may interfere with evolution and prevent stronger species from emerging naturally.
  • Thousands of species are endangered, making conservation costly, complex and difficult to manage.
  • Today’s extinctions are largely caused by habitat destruction, hunting, pollution, deforestation and climate change rather than natural processes.
  • Humans have a moral duty to protect species endangered by their own actions and prevent unnecessary suffering.
  • Every species supports food chains and ecosystem stability, so one extinction may harm many others.
  • Wildlife provides genetic material for medicine, scientific research, technology and future discoveries.
  • Conservation supports ecotourism, employment, pollination and other valuable ecosystem services.
  • Biodiversity cannot be replaced because each species represents unique genetic material shaped by millions of years of evolution.
  • Future generations deserve to inherit a rich natural world and experience its beauty, wildlife and cultural value.
  • The current extinction rate is far faster than the natural rate, showing that this is an urgent human-made crisis.
  • Every species has an inherent right to exist, even when it provides no direct benefit to humans.
  • Modern knowledge and conservation methods can protect endangered species, creating a responsibility to take action.
  • Human survival depends on healthy ecosystems for food, clean water, clean air, fertile soil and climate regulation.
  • The recovery of pandas, bald eagles, condors, humpback whales and mountain gorillas shows that conservation can succeed.

Animals in Entertainment and Sport

Đề bài: Blood sports have become a controversial issue in recent years. As society develops, they are increasingly regarded as uncivilised activities that are cruel to animals. All blood sports should be banned. Discuss the main arguments for this statement and give your own opinion.

Dạng bài: Discussion with Opinion

Arguments for banning Arguments against banning
  • Blood sports cause animals severe pain, fear and prolonged suffering purely for entertainment.
  • A modern society should value compassion and reject entertainment based on deliberate cruelty.
  • Such activities normalise violence and may weaken children’s respect for animals and living beings.
  • Blood sports are unnecessary because they do not provide food, safety or any essential social benefit.
  • Allowing blood sports is inconsistent with laws that punish other forms of animal cruelty.
  • Public attitudes are changing, with more people, especially younger generations, supporting a ban.
  • People can enjoy many sports, games and modern forms of entertainment without harming animals.
  • Many countries have already introduced bans, showing that such laws can be enforced successfully.
  • Greater understanding of animal intelligence and suffering makes blood sports difficult to accept today.
  • Local economies can develop alternative tourism and provide financial support for affected workers.
  • Supporters argue that these activities are long-standing traditions linked to cultural identity, local heritage and tourism.
  • Many jobs, rural businesses and tourism activities depend on breeding, training and organising these events.
  • Opponents of a ban believe adults should be free to choose their activities without excessive government control.
  • Supporters claim that strict rules, veterinary checks and welfare standards can reduce unnecessary suffering.
  • Some forms of hunting are presented as necessary for controlling animal populations and protecting ecological balance.
  • These activities may require horsemanship, physical ability, training, strategy and other sporting skills.
  • Supporters argue that animals are killed quickly and may suffer less than those raised in factory farms.
  • Critics fear that banning blood sports could lead to wider restrictions on fishing, meat consumption and other uses of animals.
  • Common examples include bullfighting, fox hunting, dogfighting, cockfighting, hare coursing, trophy hunting and some forms of rodeo.
  • Opponents argue that replacing these activities may be difficult in areas with few alternative sources of income.

Hunting, Poaching and Wildlife Trade

Đề bài: Some people believe that all forms of hunting should be banned, while others argue that controlled hunting can help manage wildlife populations and support conservation. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Ban All Hunting Controlled Hunting Can Help
  • Hunting for sport is unethical because animals are sentient beings with a right to life.
  • Hunting can remove strong breeding animals, reduce genetic diversity and threaten endangered species.
  • Animals may suffer from painful injuries, stress and the loss of parents or social groups.
  • Contraception, relocation and predator reintroduction can control animal populations without killing them.
  • Trophy hunting kills rare animals for entertainment, status and personal pride.
  • Legal hunting can increase demand for animal products and make poaching harder to control.
  • Treating wildlife as targets ignores the natural value of animals and ecosystems.
  • Hunting is no longer necessary where food and other forms of recreation are widely available.
  • Hunting may normalise violence and make children less sensitive to animal suffering.
  • Wildlife tourism can generate long-term income without killing animals.
  • Controlled hunting can prevent overpopulation, disease and damage to the ecosystem.
  • Licence fees and hunting permits can fund habitat protection, wildlife programmes and anti-poaching patrols.
  • Hunting can give landowners a financial reason to protect forests, wetlands and wildlife reserves.
  • Hunting can remove invasive species that damage habitats and threaten native wildlife.
  • Hunting may support Indigenous traditions, provide food and protect rural livelihoods.
  • Hunting can create local jobs, tourism income and funding for schools or healthcare.
  • Selective hunting can reduce crop damage, livestock losses and conflict between people and wildlife.
  • Scientific quotas and population monitoring can keep hunting at sustainable levels
  • Regulated hunting may be safer than poisoning, illegal shooting or uncontrolled killing.
  • Some regulated hunting programmes have helped recover species such as rhinos and markhor.

People hold different opinions about whether animals should be used in medical research. While some regard this practice as unethical and excessively costly, others argue that it is essential for scientific progress. I believe animal testing should continue, but only under strict ethical regulations.

On the one hand, opponents point out that laboratory animals may experience severe pain, prolonged confinement and poor living conditions. Subjecting living creatures to harmful procedures is therefore considered cruel and inhumane. Animal-based research can also require substantial expenditure on specialised facilities, equipment and trained personnel. This may place pressure on public finances, especially in developing countries where limited funds could instead be allocated to hospitals, schools or affordable housing. From this perspective, governments should invest more heavily in alternative research methods.

On the other hand, animal experimentation still plays a vital role in medical advancement. Before a new drug can be tested on humans, researchers must evaluate its effectiveness, toxicity and possible side effects. Computer simulations and laboratory-grown cells are increasingly useful, but they cannot yet replicate the complex interactions that occur within a complete living organism. Moreover, certain animals share important biological characteristics with humans, allowing scientists to obtain relatively reliable findings. Such research has contributed to the development of vaccines, surgical procedures and treatments for life-threatening diseases. Until a fully effective substitute becomes available, banning animal testing entirely could slow medical breakthroughs and expose human volunteers to unacceptable risks.

In conclusion, animal testing raises legitimate ethical and financial concerns, but its contribution to medical science remains difficult to replace. It should therefore be permitted when strictly necessary, while researchers minimise suffering and continue developing humane alternatives.
